Hi Rodbenders!
Well, it is mid season and the year is off to a great start. After the first three club events of 2006, we are off to the best start ever in terms of participation at club events and meetings. Keep up the good work guys.
Don’t bet against the “HOME TEAM”! That is the primary lesson to be learned from the Rodbenders Reunion tournament that was held at Kentucky Lake last week. Kentucky Lake local, former club member and permanent friend of the Rodbenders, Brent Evans, reunited with his old partner, Larry Thomas, to put together a winning 2 day total of 26 lbs 6 oz to take top honors in this years Reunion tournament. It really does pay to know the lake. Congratulations to Brent and Larry.
Second place was taken by club President Mike Morie and his partner, Wayne Dick, with a 2 day total of 24 lbs 11 oz., while 3rd place went to the Dad-n-Lad team of Mark and Tyler Schild who boated over 20 lbs on the first day, but could only manage a two day total of 23 lbs 9.5 oz. Tyler is consoled by the fact that one of the keepers he caught on day 1 was a 5 lb 4 oz hawg that not only took “Big bass” money for this tournament, but also has him in first place, for the time being, in the Big Bass of the Year contest. (BBOY currently will pay $280.) 4th place money was taken by Keith Williams and Mike Long with 22 lbs 13 oz. Well done to everyone.
This month the Rodbenders awards for innovative techniques and alternative uses for bass fishing equipment are being awarded to the following members:
Second runner up goes to the team of Mike Morie and Wayne Dick who, thanks to a “defective hose” or something like that, experimented with the idea of using their entire bass boat as a floating live well by pumping water directly into the boat hull instead of just the live wells.
First runner up goes to ME-your club secretary for the Tom King method of Marine Hygiene, which requires that you thoroughly rinse out your boat and simultaneously test the operation of your automatic bilge pump by launching without the drain plug in place. (The only thing more humiliating than launching your boat without the plug, and claiming that it must have been pulled out by those “jerks” who parked their boat next to yours last night, is finding the missing plug under the seat when you are cleaning the boat the next day!)
And the first place trophy for alternate uses of boating equipment goes to the team of Mike Clasen and Chuck Hillemann, for their creative use of their transom saver as a prop sharpener. (I’ll bet that was noisy.) Their trophy will be awarded as soon as we can get it removed from the prop shaft.
The next club meeting will be this Thursday, June 1 at Yesterday’s on Woodson Road. Sign ups for the Mark Twain tournament and for the Kids tournament will be held.
Attached are the current standings in Angler of the Year and the State Team qualifying for your information. As always, if you see any mistakes, yell at me on Thursday.
