HEY RODBENDERS!
I know this newsletter is a little late in arriving, so you have my apologies for not updating you all sooner. But those of you who have access to the internet are probably way ahead of me if you have been monitoring the club website at stlrodbenders.com. And if you haven’t checked it out yet, you really should. It has features that you will never see in one of my newsletters and they are updated almost daily-no waiting.
Late though it may be, for all of you who haven’t heard already, we had one half of a successful weekend at Mark Twain on the 10th of June. The club tournament went off without any missing plugs, busted props or displaced transom savers. 14 boats showed up to fish Mark Twain and 9 of them weighed fish. Unlike the previous month, however, no one seemed to have found any honey holes and the weigh in was small in comparison to May. First place went to Mary Neyens and her boat driver Craig, with a total of 7 lbs ½ oz, all of which were landed by Captain Mary. Way to go girl!! In second place was the team of Ken King and his boat driver/owner, Larry Beck, who weighed in 6 lbs 14 ½ oz. Third place money was collected by Lonnie Morie and his son/boat driver, Mike Morie with a total of 6 lbs 10 oz. Lonnie also had the big bass for the day, a respectable 4 pounder. (Can you imagine how any of these teams might have done if both of the people in the boat were fishing??)
The second day of the weekend was a complete bust, as heavy rain and , more significantly, lots of lightning, forced the cancellation of the Rodbenders Fish with a Kid tournament. Quite a few kids spent the night at the lake and awoke to rolling thunder and a constant downpour and no safe opportunity to fish that day. After assessing the weather conditions and the potential for clearing skies later in the day (not likely), the club leadership decided to cancel the event for this year. Plans for reimbursing entry fees and decisions about what to do with the donated food, etc., will be resolved at the upcoming club meeting.
The next club tournament will be the weekend of July 15 and 16 at Pomme de Terre Lake. Headquarters for this event will be the Hickory Grove Resort (417) 852-4440. In case you are not aware, the format for that tournament has been changed to a Morning/Morning split with take off at 5:30 on both Saturday and Sunday, weigh in at 1PM on Saturday and at 11AM on Sunday. We will sign up and draw take off order at the club meeting at Yesterday’s on Woodson Road on Thursday, July 6 at 6 PM. See you there!!
